ABORIGINAL ART

The collector Karlheinz Essl made his first extensive journey through Australia as early as 2000, in which he was able to get to know the art and culture of the indigenous people of Australia. Fascinated by the independent spirituality and force of the works of the Aboriginal people, in 2001 he organised the exhibition >Dreamtime<, which, with many loan works, illustrated the enormous spectrum of art of the Australian Aborigines. Just three years later Karlheinz Essl undertook another long journey to Australia, out of which came the >Spirit & Vision< exhibition in the Essl Museum in 2004. Today, the Essl Collection owns one of the most important collections of Aboriginal art, which has repeatedly been presented in dialogue with international art.

ART EDUCATION AT THE ESSL MUSEUM

“Art education in our house shall build bridges in various ways, from the artwork to the observer. For us it is a very special gift when visitors come back in order to experience the adventure of art.”
Agnes and Karlheinz Essl

The art education at the Essl Museum is characterized by the combination of talks in front of original artworks and hands-on testing of the visitors’ own creativity at the museum art studio. We offer workshops and guided tours for kids, families, adults and groups!

Find out about our regular workshops, guided tours and events and get to know the team of the art education!
